About the Opportunity

The Town of Snow Lake currently has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to join their team on a permanent, full-time basis

As our new CAO, some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Meeting with department heads to determine community needs
  • Attending committee, council, and other regular meetings
  • Administration, planning, and economic development
  • Supervising a direct team of reports
  • Finding solutions for regulatory problems, including health and safety
  • Developing policies and procedures
  • Assisting with the enforcement of policies and regulations
  • Completing formal HR functions, such as onboarding and orientations
  • Acting as the town clerk, assisting with by-elections and documentation
  • Making recommendations to improve systems and processes
  • Filling and assisting with other roles as may be required from time to time

About You

In order to qualify for this role, you must have strong administration, HR management, analytical, and communication skills. Completion of the Certificate in Manitoba Municipal Administration (CMMA) is an asset, but is not required. Previous experience in a municipal environment is also considered an asset.

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience
  • The ability to work collaboratively with elected officials, municipal staff, community volunteers, boards, and committees
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and organizational development
  • Demonstrated experience with building team relations and people management
  • The ability to interpret by-laws, current legislation, acts, and regulations
  • Strong public speaking and negotiation skills
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite of programs
  • The ability to communicate effectively with the public, employees (both unionized and non-unionized), as well as external stakeholders
  • An understanding of accounting, financing, and budget preparation

As a strategic and analytical professional, you will also be comfortable working in a multi-dimensional service organization and have the proven ability to mediate and problem-solve while remaining cool and calm under pressure.
