About the Opportunity

The Town of Snow Lake is currently looking for a Transportation and Utilities Manager to complement our existing team in Snow Lake, Manitoba.

Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Transportation and Utility Operations within the Town, including managing the Transportation and Utilities teams to ensure operations run smoothly. This is a hands-on role that requires working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of heavy-duty equipment. 

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Leading, supervising, and mentoring all Utility, Public Works, and Recreation personnel
  • Effectively managing and allocating Town resources, including spending and budgeting
  • Running and overseeing the safety and preventative maintenance programs
  • Planning and attending daily meetings, outlining and delegating tasks
  • Ensuring that good relations are maintained with the public when dealing with complaints
  • Responding to emergency call-outs when required
  • Following safe work, practices to ensure the safety of the team, equipment, the public, and property

About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will need 5 years of progressive Industrial Mechanical experience, including extensive time in a leadership/supervisory position. Previous work in a municipal department of public works or in an utilities background, is an asset. For this role, a class 3A Driver's License or higher is also required.

The ideal candidate will also possess:

  • Mechanical experience, primarily with the operation and maintenance of heavy-duty equipment and vehicles 
  • Experience in road maintenance and solid waste management 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to deal with both the public and staff professionally
  • Working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office
  • Previous experience working in a Utilities department (asset)
  • Previous hands-on experience in a skilled trade requiring operation or maintenance of heavy equipment (asset)
  • HR experience within a unionized environment (asset)
  • Civil Engineering Technician (CET) diploma (asset)
  • A Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Water and Wastewater Certificate (or willingness to obtain one)

Please note that preference will be given to applicants with the above-noted skills, but the Town is also willing to invest in training for a suitable candidate who would be willing to grow with the organization.
